Lyndsay Marshall
I am a freelance professional indexer with advanced membership of the Society of Indexers. I can produce back-of-the-book and embedded indexes, and I have worked for a range of authors and publishers. I am Minutes Secretary to the Society of Indexers’ Executive Board, a member of the SI Training Course Committee, and SI representative to the British Standards Institute (BSI). As part of my role with BSI, I am a member of the international working group updating ISO 999: Information and documentation – guidelines for the content, organization and presentation of indexes.
I am a graduate in English and Cultural Studies (BA Hons, first class), and Information Analysis (MSc with distinction). Most of my indexing experience is in literary studies, cultural studies, theology and religious studies, but I can work across subjects from the arts, humanities and social sciences to technology, engineering and popular medicine.
I live in Aberdeen in Scotland. I have worked as a technical author in the energy industry, authoring and editing updates to management system documentation. I have also worked as a research assistant at the Robert Gordon University, specialising in information literacy and health information quality factors. Prior to that I trained as a librarian and had several information-based and administrative roles.
